The Mavericks punched their ticket to next week’s 6A State Tournament as they built an 8-0 lead in the top of the fourth en route to winning their third straight game.

Southside (15-11, 5-8 6A-Central) scored four in the top of the second, highlighted by a two-run double from Kendall Willis followed by a Hannah Hogue RBI double. Willis then added a two-run single in the third.

In the fourth, Madi Conklin delivered an RBI triple and Piper Morgan followed that up with an RBI single to make it 8-0, Mavs. Southside’s final run came in the fifth, when Hana Dingman’s RBI single made it 9-2.

Willis and Hogue each went 2-for-4. Willis drove in four runs and scored another, and Hogue had two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.


Meliah Hunter picked up the win in the circle, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out four batters.
